Fun weekend & Instagram challenge

On Saturday, we decided to make a spur of the moment trip to a bouncy house and water park.  It was gloomy and looked like it was going to storm so we decided on a smaller indoor park that was perfect for little ones.  We went there last year with Shawna and her family and had a good time.

Kase was a little hesitant at the bouncy house, which surprised me because he's usually a daredevil.  He eventually warmed up though.  Kyla loved it and had no fear.  I didn't take many pictures, but here are a few (taken from my phone so a tad blurry).

I asked her how much fun she was having and she said "THIS MUCH!"

I didn't take a single picture at the water park.  We were so busy keeping track of the kids, in and out of pools, going down slides with them, etc.  I just didn't get my phone out.  But we had a blast and plan on going back.  It's pretty cheap and so perfect for this age!

Sunday I did some shopping with my mom, which was really fun.  We checked out World Market (we had never been there) and got a couple small things for the house.  I'm verrrrrrrrrry slowly starting to decorate.  But I'm really waiting until our main living area gets painted (hopefully will be soon)!  We also went to Costco and Target.  It was fun to get out and I love shopping with my mom!

We came home and Kyla and Tyler were outside playing.  Kase was napping.  Kyla said, "Mama, watch this" and plopped her little butt right in this bucket.  This was their "redneck swimming pool" for the day.  I could not stop laughing.  She loved it though!

On a different note, I decided to do my first Instagram challenge for the summer.  I'm posting one picture every day, which will be fun to look back on and see how much fun we had.  You can follow me @amykattre if you're not already!

Hope all of you had a great weekend too!  Can you believe it's almost July already?

Happy Birthday Tyler!

We usually don't do too much for our birthdays.  They are getting more fun now though since the kids are getting older and actually understand what birthdays are.  Kyla was excited to wake up this morning, knowing it was Daddy's big day!

Unfortunately he still had to work so we met him for lunch and made scotcharoos for his coworkers!

Here are a couple phone pictures from Father's Day morning.  Best dad ever right here!

Kyla cried the whole way home after he had to go back to work.  Hopefully I can get her to take a nap and then he'll be home for the weekend!  Happy birthday Daddy.  We love you so much!

Gift cards collecting dust

I absolutely LOVE getting gift cards as gifts.  Who doesn't right?  Yet somehow, I let them sit in my wallet forever and forget to use them.  I got a $50 gift card toward a massage two Christmases ago that I still have not used.  What the heck?  I would die for a massage, yet I never go treat myself on one.

I cleaned out my wallet this morning (which is what inspired this blog post) and found these...

The Barnes & Noble and Applebee's are both from Christmas that I got while teaching.  The Home Depot isn't so bad...we got that last week from our mortgage guy.

Tyler and I never go out to eat.  Taking the kids out right now is just more stressful than anything.  If we had special plans or a family thing going on or something, we obviously will take the kids out for dinner.  But we'd rather just eat at home or get carry out or something.  And about once a year (usually around our anniversary), we'll go out to eat just the two of us.  But hopefully soon I can meet him for lunch or something and have a juicy burger from Applebee's :)

And now I'm off to shop online for a new book before I let that one sit in wallet for another 6 months.  Does anyone else do this with their gift cards?

More House Pictures

I think most of you know this already, but I am not a photographer.  My pictures are very low quality and I really don't care, haha.  I just snap on automatic and get what I get.  Just thought I better warn you :)

Let's start with the kitchen today!

The door to the left of the table goes into the living room.

The only downfall is that it's not open to the living room - where I can see the kids playing while I cook dinner.

I didn't take any pictures of our master bedroom, but I did snap a couple of the closet.  We needed this big closet...Tyler has TONS of clothes!  He has been the same exact size forever so he still wears things from a long time ago!

On to Kyla's bedroom...

Need some curtains.
I'm still working on the organization as you can see on the top of her dresser :)
Oh hey Kyla!  The closet needs some work too.
Not a huge fan of the paint, but not too concerned about it right now.
Moving over to Kase's room...

His room needs A LOT of work.  Hate the white walls!

Poor guy has such a boring room!
Closet door there - he has the worst closet too.  He always gets the shaft :(  But I will make your room better, buddy.  I promise!
The laundry room is right across from the kitchen and then out to the garage.

I have some plans for the laundry room too since it is where we always go in and out of the house.
Downstairs to the basement.  Warning - I did not pick up down there.  It is a mess with unpacked boxes and furniture randomly placed for now.

Right when you come down the stairs, there is this room.  It has our school/office supplies and Kyla's little desk.

Off of that room is the main living area.  It's actually huge, but you can't really tell with this picture.  I want to paint it and then see if my uncle will build some built-in shelving along that back wall.  We want to get a huge TV for that wall too.  There is a window back here by the treadmill.  This room obviously needs lots of work too.
Basement bathroom that still needs a shower curtain and rugs.
There are two bedrooms down there.  This is going to be a guest bedroom.
This will be the toy room (want to paint this too).
Both bedrooms downstairs have good sized closets, which is great for toys!
There's also a closet in the hallway outside the two bedrooms and then there's two large storage areas down there.  Lots of room!

I think that's about it!  Lots of fun projects coming up!

The Big Move

As typical here, I am late with this post.  We closed on both houses on May 23rd and moved that day, but we just got internet yesterday.  And there was no way I was blogging on my phone with my spotty 3G service.

Looking back, the move went pretty smoothly.  Had I blogged about this sooner, I may have described it with some different adjectives.  But we had some sweet family that helped us out and made it as easy as possible.

Wednesday night of moving week Tyler and I got a Uhaul truck.  We were supposed to have a 26 foot truck, but of course, they only had a 20 footer (despite us booking it weeks before).  We started filling it up that night and quickly realized there was no way all of our stuff was going to fit.  I don't even think it would have fit even with the bigger truck.  So Thursday morning we headed back and got another 20 footer.  Man, you really don't realize how much stuff you have until you have to move it all!

My wonderful step dad and uncle came over Thursday to help us get the trucks loaded.  We had the house pretty well packed up and out in the garage.  So it was a matter of lifting it all into the truck.  I have no idea what we would have done without those two.  Since we closed on our old house at 2:00 on Friday, we wanted to be completely moved out Thursday night so we could clean up Friday morning before closing.  We worked non-stop until about 7:30 Thursday night.  I forgot to mention, we have a 3 year old and 20 month old that were "helping" all day and by 7:30, they had ENOUGH!  So we went and slept at my brother's house for the night.  Our entire lives on two trucks.  But we went to bed overwhelmed because there was still so much to do the next morning.

I woke up at 6:30 and headed over to the house and got to work.  The new buyers had their walk through at noon so that was our deadline.  I kid you not, we didn't pull out of there until 11:50.  I had one nervous breakdown that morning from being completely stressed out and realizing time was slipping away.  But it got done.  I got the house clean.  Our stuff was out.  I hadn't showered in two days.  I lost a box out the back of the truck, which I eventually found on the side of the road.  Sigh.  I was really sad that we didn't even have a chance to take a family picture at our very first house.  The kids were at my brother's with my mom.  So I asked my step dad to take one of Tyler and I.  It was our very first home together.  7 years of awesome memories.  The home we brought both of our babies home to.  We will miss it, but we are completely in love with our new house and ready to start some new memories!

Wow, we were nasty!
We had our walk through at our new house at noon too.  So we went straight there and then I HAD to go back to my brother's and shower.  A shower has never felt so good!

We sold our house at 2:00.  Bought the new one at 3:00.  And were ready to unpack our trucks at the new house by about 5:00 Friday night.  As you can imagine, with only a couple hours of daylight, we basically emptied the trucks into the garage and had to worry about it later.  We still have stuff in the garage today that doesn't belong, but I am taking my time with it.  At least we can both park in it now!

I apologize for those of you looking for a full house tour.  I'm not quite ready for that yet.  I do want to post pictures that will kind of serve as "before" pictures.  Because things still aren't really put away or how I want them.  The basement is still a huge mess.  And we have a list of things we want to do/buy.  But I think it will be fun to post some before pictures and then share some progress pictures as we go along.

It was completely move-in ready, but of course there are things we want to do to make it our own and make it work better for us.  But it is completely livable, and most importantly, completely finished.  No basement remodels in our future!  We seriously got SO lucky with this house!

Here are a couple pictures of my favorite parts of the house...

A LONG driveway that the kids love to ride and/or run around on!  Plus we're out in the country and on a cul-du-sac so they can eventually ride bikes on the road safely!
Landscaping that I love and don't have to do myself because I'm horrible at it.  Now I just need to maintain it!
A pantry!  We didn't have one in the last house and I LOVE it!
Not really a favorite room, but it was clean so I snapped a picture :)  I wasn't a fan of the dark walls, but was happy when I found the shower curtain that went with it and lightened up the room.  I want to get a white shelf for above the toilet and some type of picture above the shelf.
Our master bathroom.  Glass/tile shower and whirlpool tub...LOVE!

Off of the kitchen, a little dining area.  Not a huge fan of the orange, but probably won't change it anytime soon.  The real purpose of this picture was to show the screened in porch.  I love it!  However, I do not like there is no door to exit down to the backyard.  We plan on adding a door that will lead out to a deck with stairs.

View from the porch (we have over 2 acres of yard to mow).  Play set is on the "list" too :)

View down from the porch shows the patio area.  Furniture for this area and the porch are on the wish list :)
(She tried to photo bomb every single picture)  Front door, where I still need a rug.  Another dining area that we need to buy a table for (we want a 6 chair high top one).  I'd like to put a hutch next to the colored wall if there's room.  The kids love that it's all just open right now and kick balls around all day :)

View from the other side.  No decorations.  Our furniture does not work in this room with the step up.  We squeezed the love seat in there, but I don't like it.  I'm not sure what options we have, but that will be a whole different post later.  I need some decorative pillows for the furniture!

I'm not a fan of the light green wall.  It's not horrible, but just not a huge fan.  What I'd like to do is paint all of these living room walls tan and then do the accent wall (the reddish wall with the rug by it) like a navy blue.  I will be asking for advice on all this later.  I don't have the guts to do it yet.  I want to keep the fireplace wall neutral so I can decorate the mantel for all the holidays and not have it clash.  I have some inspiration pictures I have found that I will post later!

The kitchen is over this wall.  It's a mess so no pictures tonight :)
I promise I will get some more pictures taken soon!  I will be asking for some decorating/organizing advice since I am the most indecisive person on this earth.

One quick story to end with...

Kyla was having a really hard time about this "new house" thing.  She did not want to move.  She didn't want a new bedroom.  She didn't want a bigger yard.  She was having none of it.  She cried on the way over to the new house for the first time.  Luckily when she got here she was distracted by some of her favorite people (aunts, uncles, grandparents).  The first night she slept with me because we didn't have time to get her bed put together.  The second night, she went to bed in her own room like a champ.  She did so awesome!  A couple days later we were out running errands and she asked, "Where we going now Mama?"  I told her we were going home.  She started crying.  "I don't want to go home!  I want to go to the new house!"  It was so sweet.  I explained that the new house IS our home now.  She absolutely loves it and so do I!
