Classroom Preparation - Day 1

Oops, let me back up a bit.  I guess I haven't blogged for almost a month now and A LOT has happened since then!

About a month ago I decided it was time for me to get back into teaching.  I always knew I would, but I didn't know when.  I wasn't really expecting for it to happen yet.  But I really missed it.  I was working part time for my brother and realized that the office environment just isn't for me.  I am absolutely meant to be a teacher, no doubt about it.

So I looked to see what school districts I could apply to sub.  I figured I'd sub for a year and then apply for full time jobs next year.  I just happened to see a 3rd grade opening.  The opening closed two days later and I hadn't touched my resume or any other documents since 2009.  I crammed, got everything done, and submitted my application.  I had an interview last Thursday and was offered the job Friday morning.  The moment I got off the phone with the principal, I started bawling.  I have waited a long time to have my own classroom.  To do what I love.  To feel completely happy and proud of myself.  I already had an amazing life, but this is the last thing that I wanted to complete that.  So in that moment, all I could do was cry.  I called Tyler right away and started crying again, haha.

Things are definitely about to change.  The kids will obviously be going to daycare full time.  I will be getting up at 5:30 every morning since I have a 45 minute drive one way.  Tyler will have to go in to work a little later and drop the kids off at daycare.  Our time together as a family at night will be even more precious than it is now.  I will miss the kids so much, but this is what is best for all of us.  I am lucky enough to have the option to work or stay home.  I have been very blessed to stay home these 2 1/2 years.  But now is the time.  And I can't help but think it is meant to be.  I applied for many jobs out of college, had interviews, and never got a full time job.  I did plenty of subbing, but always wanted my own classroom.  Now, after being out of teaching for over 4 years, I got the first job I applied for.

I have so much to do to be ready for those 3rd graders on September 3rd.  I can't even explain to you how much there is to do.  I mean, there is a lot to do for any teacher to get ready for the first day.  But throw in the fact that I have less than two weeks until our open  house, this being my first classroom (of my own), and the teacher before me leaving everything in the room.  Everything!  The room is full of junk and is so dirty.  Today was my first day in there and I was completely overwhelmed.  I didn't even know where to begin.  I started by taking all her bulletin boards down.

I don't have an actual wall - we have one of those room dividers.  Doesn't make for very nice looking bulletin boards.

Every drawer, cabinet, and desk looked like my one junk drawer.

Took a picture of the before so I can appreciate the after later :)

So this is where I'm at right now.  Blank slate.  Ready for a new start!

Those annoying things are coming down from the ceiling.

Clean counter - Yay!

I took four giant garbage bags to the dumpster today.  I found dirty socks, hair ties with hair stuck on them and many other random, disgusting things.  I'm hoping to do a lot more cleaning tomorrow.  I'm going to take my camera each day to document the process :)

And since it's been so long - here's a little update on the kids...

They are awesome!  Kyla is talking so much and is just hilarious.  She was going potty really well for a few days, but now she's back to diapers again.  We're not going to push it until after the two weddings that she's in in September.  She still is a major Mama's girl.  Bedtime has been a little bit of a struggle lately as she likes to get up out of bed and turn her light on and off.  She is doing really well though and she makes us laugh every day!

Kase turns one THIS Saturday!  Can you believe that?  We're having his party on Sunday, which will probably be very laid back since I have so much to do this week in the classroom.  I don't think he will mind if I don't go all out.  He has two new teeth in the back.  I missed his 11 month post and think it would be pretty silly to do it at this point.  He got his first haircut and looks like such a stud.  Shawna over at Girls Just Wanna Have Fun was sweet enough to meet me on Sunday to take his pictures.  She posted a few on Facebook and I love them.  Can't wait to see the rest.  Kase is so close to walking.  He can get about half way across the room and then falls.  He loves to steal Kyla's toys.  They wrestle each other for toys all the time.  Kyla eventually wins, but give Kase about a month and I think she might be in trouble.  They are so funny!

Please forgive me for the lack of updates.  Life has been pretty hectic, but I wouldn't trade it for the world.  Hopefully I will be back later this week with some updated classroom pictures!

Fun Weekend in the Sun!

Saturday morning we picked up our nieces and headed down to Illinois to my aunt and uncle's!  They have an awesome in-ground pool and a TON of fun floaties and toys!

We got there at 11:00 and the girls wanted to get right in the pool!  We swam until about 1:00 and then got out for a lunch break and right back in the pool.

I took the day off from taking pictures,  but my aunt got some for us!  All four kids loved the water.  Kase sat and floated around and loved every second of it.  Kyla liked the water too, but I think she loved their dog the most!  And Emma and Gianna are both little fish!

She takes after her Mama with her love of watermelon!
We're getting him ready for football season.  "What do the Packers do?  TOUCHDOWN!"
We left for home around 4:00 and we had a van full of sleepy kids!

Saturday night the girls played in the sand box.

Kase watched :)

After we gave all four kids baths, got them in their PJ's, put a movie in, popped some popcorn, brushed teeth, we were ALL ready for bed.  Tyler and I were in bed by 9:20!

Tyler took Emma and Gianna to see Despicable Me 2 Sunday morning.  They were SO excited!  I'm sure "Uncle" spoiled them with some treats too at 10:00 in the morning (after buying them donuts for breakfast).  That is what aunts and uncles are for, right? :)

We love our nieces so much so it's always nice to have them over.  Kyla just adores them!  It was a fun weekend, but two extra kids make for one tired Mama/Auntie!

4th of July at the farm

We had a great 4th of July!  So great that I totally forgot to blog about it and share all my pictures!  We went out to the farm and spent the afternoon and evening with family, enjoying all the things that you should enjoy on the 4th!  We grilled out, played bean bags, the girls swam in the little pool, we had a fire, ate smores and lit some fireworks!

Since our kids usually go to bed at 8:00, I didn't know if we'd make it for the fireworks.  But they did awesome!  Luckily Kyla got a good nap in before we went.  We ended up getting home around 10:30, but they were both so great all night!

And now, in typical Mrs. Mommy fashion, a picture overload...

Shirt from Carter's, skirt from Gymboree (didn't plan on them going together, but I didn't think the white shirt that matched the skirt was very practical for the farm).

Love to watch these two interact.
She gets jealous when I take Kase's picture now.  She says "MY TURN".

His shirt is Gymboree :)

My nieces Emma and Gianna

She learned how to throw rocks in the creek and then didn't want to do anything else the rest of the night!

Three cute red heads taking a stroll.

Emma had to bring her back since she wouldn't come willingly.

Of course Teddy had to come too!

Family is the best!

And the family farm is one of my favorite places to be!  It is so beautiful and peaceful!

My mom always buys fireworks every year.  This year was the best show yet!  You have a lot to live up to next year, Mom!

Overall, it was an awesome day!  I'm going to try really hard to post again this week.  Thanks for sticking with me while I figure out how to do this Work/Thirty-One Director/Mom/Wife/Blogger role!  Speaking of Thirty-One, we are having an outlet sale this week, where things will be selling up to 70% off.  Join my Facebook group HERE for more details on how to shop!
