Kase's Birth Story

At about 10:00 pm on Thursday, August 23rd, I had this weird feeling that it might be the night.  I decided to take a shower just in case I went into labor and I would be ahead of the game.  Heaven forbid I have to go to the hospital without showing or shaving!  However, at this point in my pregnancy, I was overly superstitious so I didn't dry my hair.  I went to bed with it wet, which causes crazy bed head.  In my crazy mind, I thought if I dried and straightened my hair, it wouldn't happen.  If I let it go and be crazy, I would go into labor and would have to wash it again.  Haha, call me crazy :)

So while laying in bed with wet hair, I started feeling some light contractions at about 11:30pm.  I didn't get my hopes up because I had these in the past and they were all false alarms.  After about five or six good ones, I got up and washed my hair again in the kitchen sink.  I then woke Tyler up to let him know that I was having contractions and I was going to blow dry my hair and get ready, just in case.

I crawled back in bed and started timing the contractions.  At this point, Tyler was wide awake and too excited to sleep.  We debated on when we should call my mom to come up.  We kept saying "If I have one more, we'll call her."  About four or five contractions later, I knew it was time.  I called her at 1:45am and she was on her way.

She had about a 45 minute drive so that gave us time to get ready, finish packing our bags, and I of course wanted to do some last minute cleaning of the house.  My mom got here at about 2:40.  I went in and peeked on Kyla sleeping and started crying.  I wrote her a note on our fridge board for the morning.

We left the house at 2:50 and arrived at the hospital at 3:20.  My contractions were really bad at this point and anywhere from 4-7 minutes apart.  It took me awhile to get up to the triage/delivery floor because I kept having to stop for the contractions.  They got me hooked up to the monitors and checked me and I was already at 4cm.  They were surprised how close together and intense my contractions were and how fast I was moving along.  They told me they were having a very busy night and they had to call in a nurse from home for me, but that they'd try to get me into a room soon.  I was getting impatient at this point because I wanted an epidural and knew it was going to be awhile.

After what seemed like forever, I got into a room and they got the epidural ordered.  I was throwing up with the really intense contractions.  I couldn't lay down so I stood in the bathroom and held onto the towel rack.  This time seemed like it was going so slow and the contractions were getting stronger with each one.

I think the anesthesiologist came in around 5:00 and by 5:30 I finally had some relief!  They checked me again and I was 5-6 cm and I knew things would slow down a little bit after the epidural.  Although the epidural was so worth it and I'd never do it without, it only worked on my left side at first.  I could still feel contractions (although not as strong) on my right side.  My left leg was completely numb, but I could still feel everything in my right leg.  So the nurse flipped me over a few times and put some more medicine in.

Tyler and I both got a little sleep.  My doctor came in around 9:30 and I was still only 6 cm so he decided to break my water.  Things started moving a lot quicker after that.  The nurse kept telling me how strong my contractions were and how quickly they were coming.  Luckily, I couldn't feel a thing!

I started feeling the urge to push around 11:00am.  I was 9cm and needed to wait it out for a little bit.  At about 11:45, there was still a little bit of cervix in the way, but I couldn't wait any longer.  I needed to push!  They had me do just a little light pushing at first to try to get rid of that last part of cervix.  At 11:57, I started pushing for real (they told me the time later, I wasn't watching the clock, haha).  And at 12:09pm, Kase Bradley was born!

He was immediately put on my chest and I will never forget that moment.  This is when Tyler got a little light headed and had to lay down on the couch.  When we had Kyla, we were worried that he wouldn't make it through the birth because he has such a weak stomach, but he didn't have any problems!  He's still not sure what caused it this time.  On his way back over to me, he said he accidentally got a peek of the doctor taking care of the after birth stuff.  Back to the couch he went!  The nurse kept asking him if he was ok.  He just needed a second to breathe.  But then he was back over by me checking out his adorable son.

I felt great right after I had him.  I told the nurse I didn't even feel like I just had a baby.  They were getting everything cleaned up, Kase was getting weighed and measured, and I was busy texting our families with the news.  And then it hit me.  Out of nowhere I got sick and threw up.  I have no idea why, but I ordered some food shortly after and felt much better.  At 3:00 pm they moved us up to the 5th floor where we would stay for a couple days.  My left leg was still numb all night, which was starting to worry me.  I couldn't even walk, it was the weirdest feeling.  By the next day though, it was back to normal and I could get up and walk by myself.

A little while after her baby brother was born, Kyla came to visit!

We are so blessed to have two healthy, beautiful babies.  I blogged about Kyla's Birth Story last September and hadn't read it for awhile.  It was fun to read it this morning.  I'm thankful that I started this blog so I will always have these memories.  And it's kind of crazy how similar their stories are.  With Kyla, we got to the hospital at 1:00 am and had her at 1:04 pm.  With Kase, we got there at 3:20 am and had him at 12:09 pm.  After reading her birth story again, I had my epidural with her at almost the exact same time.  While it was all happening with Kase last Friday, Tyler and I said a couple times how it was all happening so similar to Kyla.

Our doctor and nurses were fantastic and made our experience so great.  I couldn't have asked for a better birth story for our handsome little guy.

Thankful Thursday & Newborn Pictures

(Sorry for the late post on this Thankful Thursday)

I have so much to be thankful for that I don't even know where to start.  I could never possibly get it all in this list and I won't go on forever since I have some pictures to share too.

Tyler - I know my readers probably get sick of me saying how amazing you are, but sorry, this probably won't be the last time :)  You are such a great Dad and seeing you with the kids (whoa, it's funny saying "kids") makes me love you even more.

My mom - Thank you for taking care of Kyla for 3 days while we were in the hospital.  Even though I worried sick about her, I know she had so much fun with you, Grandpa and Grandma Cheryl that she didn't even miss us.  We truly appreciate everything you do for us.  I love you!

Kyla - Thank you for being a great big sister!  Please never forget how much I love you.  Even though I have to share my time now, it doesn't mean I love you any less.  I have so much love for both you and your brother and you two have made me the happiest Mama in the world.  Thank you for the big hugs I've been getting before bed every night.  They make my day!

Kase - Thank you for being an awesome baby!  You are eating and sleeping so well and are such a happy baby.  Please keep that up!  You have made your Daddy and I so incredibly happy.

Tyler's Coworkers - Thank you for the beautiful flowers!  I love them so much that I made you scotcharoos for Tyler to bring it tomorrow :)

I had Kase's newborn pictures taken by Judi at Little Britches Photography.  We started outside and he did awesome.  Slept the whole time!  We only got one picture inside before he woke up and needed a diaper change.  He was wide awake after that and not really wanting to pose for us anymore.  But we got some really cute ones!  Here are a couple of my favorites so far.  You can click on the pictures to enlarge.

Is he not the cutest damn baby you've ever seen?  Ok, maybe I am biased.

Kase's birth story is coming tomorrow!

Daddy's Hospital Survival Kit

I showed you all the little gifts I got Kyla for the hospital in this post.  I also decided to make up a little "survival kit" for Tyler and give it to him when we got to the hospital.  I couldn't blog about it beforehand because he reads my blog :)

It wasn't much, but just my little way of making sure he knew how much I appreciated all of his love and support.

I just put a few of his favorite things in there with little personal notes.

Cherry Coke (his favorite) - To help keep you awake until I'm ready to "pop".
Life Savers - You are my "life saver" - I couldn't do it without you.
Nut Roll & Snickers - Just a few of your favorite treats.
Planters Nuts - Forgive me if I act a little "nuts".
New watch that he's been wanting - This will help "time" my contractions!
There's a pack of gum in there too, but I couldn't think of anything for that :)

He loved it :)

Adjusting

We've had a couple of nights at home now and are adjusting nicely.  Of course it is much easier with Tyler home!

I took Kase to his first doctor appointment yesterday.  He was 8 lbs 9 oz when he was born on Friday, 8 lbs 2 oz on Saturday night and was 8 lbs even yesterday at the doctor.  She wasn't too concerned because he was only 3 days old, but I have to take him in on Thursday or Friday to have him weighed again.  He shouldn't lose anymore at this point.  Otherwise he's doing great!

I am breastfeeding and so far it has gone much better than it did with Kyla.  He latched on right away the first day.  The problem is that he only is interested in eating for a few minutes and then is done.  Plus he spits up quite a bit.  So after he burps the first time, I am trying to get him to eat more.  I then change his diaper and try again.  He's been doing better today so far.  I think I'm going to look back and laugh about how he didn't eat much at the beginning because I have a feeling he's going to want to eat all the time soon!

He's in newborn clothing, but we only have two newborn sleepers and I really don't want to buy more so he's been wearing 0-3 month stuff.  They are big on him, but I don't want to spend money on clothes that he'll only wear for a couple weeks.  And he has this awful Bears outfit that his daddy put him in.  We need to get him a Packer outfit asap :)

Kyla is slowly adjusting.  She is definitely jealous though.  She's much fussier and starting to throw little tantrums.  Tyler has been doing a lot with her to keep her busy though.  And I try to play with her as much as I can and last night I gave her a bath and got her ready for bed to get a little extra time in.  Tyler usually does this.  I'm still trying to figure out how I'll make it work next week when he goes back to work.  We really have to keep a close eye on her when Kase is in the swing or on the floor.  One of us is always right next to him when he's on the floor.  But she still almost sat on his head a few times.  Even though she's having a tough time, she can be so sweet with him.  How precious are these pictures?

I'm amazed how much it seems like she's grown up in the last week.  She seems to big.  And heavy!  It's funny to change Kase's little newborn diaper and then change Kyla's size 5 diaper.

Getting ready to go for a walk with Daddy.  I was asking for a goodbye kiss and she turned around, pointed and said something in jibberish.

Come and get it if you want one Mama!

This is what happens when I take my eye off the camera to try to make her smile.
Thankfully Kyla is back in a sleep routine (knock on wood)!  She's back to taking good naps and sleeping through the night.  I worried that Kase crying in the night would wake her up but so far so good.  She's been getting up around 8:30.  Hopefully that continues!  Kase was up to eat at 1:00, 4:00 and 7:00 this morning.  I was pretty happy with that considering the night before he was up every hour.  We will probably introduce him to a bottle in the next couple of weeks so Tyler can help with the night time feedings.

So that pretty much sums up our first couple days at home.  I'm off for another feeding and to snuggle with my little man.  Tyler took Kyla to watch Uncle Mark play sand volleyball.  He just texted me and said "This girl is getting a bath tonight!" so I'm thinking she must be having her own fun in the sand.

Kase's birth story is coming soon.  I keep typing a little bit and then get distracted, but hopefully will finish it soon!

Baby Giveaway Winners

Thank you to everyone who entered my Baby Guessing Giveaway.  I have two winners.  One for the closest to his birthday and one to the closest for weight and height.

Maureen is the winner for the birthday.  And not only did she get the day exactly right, but she was within an hour!  Very impressive, Maureen!  She guessed August 24th at 12:34pm and Kase was born on the 24th at 12:09pm.  I'm still amazed at how close she was.

Joeylee is the winner for weight and height.  This was really close too.  She guessed 8 lbs 9 oz and 20 1/2 inches.  Kase was born in at 8 lbs 9 oz and 20 3/4 inches.

You both win a Thirty-One All-In-One Organizer.  I have a picture of the two pattern choices back on the giveaway post.  Please email me at amykattre@gmail.com and let me know which you would prefer and include your address so I can get it sent out to you.

Great guessing ladies!  Thanks again to everyone who entered.  It was fun reading all the guesses :)

Homecoming

Welcome home Kase Bradley!

It feels so good to be home.  We were welcome with blue balloons on the garage and mailbox!

The rain deflated them a bit
Kase had his circumcision surgery this morning.  I was really nervous about it after hearing exactly what they have to do.  They asked if we wanted to go back with him, but we passed.  Tyler has too weak of a stomach and I knew I couldn't watch him go through that.  I cried when they took him away for it so there's no way I could have seen it done.  I was surprised how quick it was.  I think he was back after 20 minutes.  And the nurse brought him and said we should change his name to Chill because the only time he cried during the whole thing was when they were getting him dressed.  That's my tough little man!

We stayed at the hospital for a couple hours to make sure everything looked good and there wasn't too much bleeding or anything.  I got one last free meal in before we called my mom to bring Kyla over to the hospital.  And at about 1:00 pm, we were on our way home as a family of four!

When we got home I put Kase on the floor and let Kyla check him out.  She sat down there with him for about 10 minutes.  It was adorable.

Not sure at first

Getting closer

I pulled his hat off and she grabbed it and tried putting it back on.  She insisted he wear it.  She still keeps bringing it over to me to put on his head.

Beautiful big sister!

Sharing her milk :)

I didn't get a picture of it, but a couple times she tried to back her butt up and sit in the carseat, on top of Kase.  So I took him out and she plopped right down in it.  She thought that was funny.

I'm hoping Kase will like the swing better than Kyla did.  She was spoiled and was held all the time since I was home and didn't have anything else to do.  Kase won't get to be AS spoiled when it comes to that.  So this swing could be a huge help!  So far he doesn't mind it for a little while.

Kyla decided she didn't need a nap today.  This better change.  And fast!  Daddy took her to get groceries and she was a little stinker.  She's definitely showing some signs of jealousy.  I was changing Kase's diaper and she came up to my legs and was crying for me to pick her up.  Tyler and I are both trying to give her our attention when we don't have the baby.  I'm happy he will be home all week to help out and hopefully get us in some type of routine.  I certainly knew it wasn't going to be easy, but I know we will all adjust after some time.

It was such a good feeling to be able to hug and kiss Kyla tonight and tell her goodnight.  She actually hugged me and didn't let go for awhile.  She's usually too anxious to get to Daddy to read their story.  It was the best part of my day.  And this has been a pretty amazing one!  Now she's in bed and hopefully will sleep well.  Time to give Kase his first bath!

39 Weeks and Life Lately

Sorry I haven't been posting much.  And I've been slacking on reading my favorite blogs so hopefully I'll catch up with all of you soon!  I've been so exhausted and spending as much quality time with Kyla as I can.  We've been enjoying every last minute of being a family of three.  Anyway, here's a little update on what's going on with us:

Pregnancy
Well, I'm still pregnant!  My weeks start on Tuesday's so today is 39 weeks.  I have been having cramping and light contractions here and there.  False labor pains are the worst.  I get my hopes up every time.  I have been taking Kyla on walks more than I could before.  I couldn't do much before because I didn't want to go into labor too early, but now I figure it's ok.  I miss going for nice long walks so much.  I can't wait to be able to take both kids out in the double stroller.

I had my weekly doctor appointment today and am still only dilated 1cm.   The doctor said his head is really low, which I already knew because I feel like when I walk he's going to fall out!  My doctor predicts he will be here this week and said he'd be shocked if I had to come to my appointment next Tuesday.  He is guessing Saturday at 3:00 am because he's on call this weekend.  Based on the pressure I'm feeling, I think it will be any day now.  But we'll see :)

Hopefully my last pregnancy pictures

Kyla
She's doing awesome and makes me laugh every day.  She still has no idea what's about to happen.  She likes to lift up my shirt and talk to my belly, but she doesn't understand that a baby is soon going to be joining us.  I know she will be great with him though.  It will be an adjustment for all of us.  She does not like when Tyler puts his hand on my belly to feel the baby move.  She gets really mad and pulls his hand away.  It's actually kind of funny.  We've been taking her to the park every day (sometimes twice).  She never used to go down the slides, but now she climbs all the way up by herself and slides down on her own.  She loves it!

Tyler
He's been really busy with his new job.  Going in early and staying late.  I am so lucky to have such a hardworking husband that does everything he can to make sure his family has everything they need.  And when he's home with us, he's been busy taking care of Kyla and doing everything around the house.  I don't know what we'd do without him!  He is getting really anxious to meet his son.  He told me the other day though that he now thinks I'm going to go late.  I hope he's wrong about that.

Let's see, what else is going on around here?  My mom has been coming up to help me out around the house and to help with Kyla.  Thanks, Mom!  You're the best!  It makes the days go much faster since they seem to be dragging on these last couple of weeks.

Here are a few random pictures that I have and figured I might as well share...

Sitting so cute watching Mickey :)

She got this adorable shirt from my Aunt Joan.  It says I Love Cookies in French :)

She was playing with my camera while I was changing her diaper.  She figured out how to turn it on AND take pictures.  She actually took this one of herself!
Tyler's mom and brothers came over tonight to see Kyla and we ordered pizza for dinner.  Then we all went to the park after dinner.

Kyla and Uncle Tanner (she was laughing at Grandma instead of looking at the camera)

Grandma Cheryl and Kyla

Quick picture on the way to the park.  Ugh, this would have been a perfect picture if my husband could have smiled like a normal person.  Even Kyla was looking at me and smiling!

Everyone loves the swings!

Sliding with Uncle Tanner!

And Uncle Trevor!

That's all I have for tonight I guess.  Hopefully I won't be posting a 40 week update next week.  But I just want a safe delivery and a happy, healthy baby so if he's not ready yet, Mama will be patient :)
