Reminiscing

I know most of you visit my blog to see pictures of Kyla.  I apologize that I don't have a ton lately.  But I hope you all understand that I write this blog for me.  Of course I love that I have followers and friends and family that enjoy reading, but I have to sometimes remind myself that I don't have to just post to make others happy.  This is my journal.  My little diary.  And my way of sharing my thoughts and feelings in a healthy way.  So today is one of those days where I just wanted to reminisce a little bit.  Thanks for understanding :)

Tyler and I started dating in March of 2003, got married in 2006 and had Kyla in 2011.  We were very lucky to be able to have a lot of fun and experience a lot of cool things before starting a family.  Don't get me wrong, we have a lot of fun now too, but a different kind of fun.  And let's be honest, you just can't do the things you did without kids once you have them.  But I'm thankful that we had those years to enjoy being a couple, take impromptu trips if we wanted or go out with friends without a care in the world.

Our wedding day - July 15, 2006

I thought it would be fun to look back and post a few pictures from our honeymoon in Hawaii.  What an amazing trip that was!  We both want to go back, but realistically it probably won't be for a very long time.  Maybe our 20 year anniversary?  Haha.

Our view from our room

Booze cruise :)

We were on top of a volcano waiting to watch the sun rise.  There was a van that drove us up there and then we rode bikes back down the volcano.  I was scared out of my mind because we basically rode straight down the entire time.  I was such a slow poke.  Tyler would ride ahead and then wait for me.  It was definitely one of my favorite things we did though!  And yes, it was freezing up there!

Just hanging out on a volcano above the clouds, no big deal :)

Ahhh, no wonder I want to go back!

Newlyweds :)

Our first morning there our times were all screwed up from the time difference so we were up at like 4:00 in the morning and decided to take a walk on the beach.
:)
The Spring after we got married, we took a trip to Italy and Greece.  My uncle takes high school students on amazing trips every year and he generously offered for us to tag along.  How could we turn that down?  Unfortunately, I can't find our pictures from that trip on our computer.  I only have an actual photo album.  Bummer!  But let me tell you, it was ahhhmazing!  All of our sight seeing, transportation and meals were included so we really had no cares in the world.  We literally just got to tag along and see so many amazing things.  I am so thankful we were able to experience all of that!

Another fun memory I have is doing the Great Urban Race in 2009.  It's basically like the Amazing Race, but a smaller, one-day race.  They have races all over the country so we did it in Madison.  They give you a bunch of clues/tasks and you have to run all over the city trying to get them all done.  Although we didn't place that great, it was a lot of fun and definitely one of those things that we are both glad we did.  I would definitely recommend it to anyone!  I'd love to do it again some day!

We finally finished and were hot and exhausted!

As much fun as we had, we were more than ready to give those days up to start a family.  We're excited to continue making new memories with our children.

The Bachelorette Dish - Episode 3

TheBacheloretteDish

I am linking up here for The Bachelorette Dish.

I know most of my loyal readers could care less about The Bachelorette so please feel free to sit this post out.  But I know a few of you watch too so please comment and leave your thoughts.  Or better yet, join me for this link-up!  And I have to mention right off the bat that I do not know who wins.  I am not reading spoilers this time!  I know some of you are probably shocked, but I actually want to be surprised for once.  Ok, let's talk about last night's episode...

One thing that you probably won't see in my episode recaps is fashion feedback.  I may be one of the least fashionable people ever so I feel like I shouldn't really judge these people.  I will say that Emily is absolutely gorgeous and looks amazing in everything she wears.  That's about all I got for you for fashion.

I think this is the first season where there weren't any kisses until episode 3.  But we sure saw some making out last night!

Chris got the first one on one date tonight.

Emily kept saying how cute he was and that she would never have the guts to approach him at a bar.  I just don't see what she sees I guess.  Something about him just seems a little stiff.  And he seems a little dorky (not that being dorky is a bad thing).  I can't decide if I think Emily likes the beefy athlete or the skinny dork.  I think in the end though, it will come down to Chris' age and Emily feeling like he's just not ready for a wife and child.  She seemed really put off when he said he was 25.  How old was Brad?  I think 37?  I definitely see her with someone older.  Chris did get the first kiss of the season, but I didn't really think much of it.  It seemed very innocent and not much of a connection.  Not like some other kisses to come...

The group date was next.  I love that Emily had her friends there to help her.  I think everyone should have that on this show.  It's important to see how your possible spouse interacts with the people closest to you.  I think her friend Wendy likes Sean a little too much, haha.  That was hilarious.  I also wanted to jump through my tv and tell Stevie to stop dancing!

I do have to agree with Wendy though.  Sean is super cute.  I hope he gets a one on one date next week!  I want to see more of him and Emily.  I feel like they would make the perfect couple.  Very Ken and Barbie like.  I'm so happy he got the rose!

Doug's story broke my heart.  I wasn't a huge fan of him, but he's definitely growing on me.  I think the feelings I had for Ryan are gone and have switched over to Doug.  Ryan just seems too hardcore and very into himself.

I am SO happy that Emily let Tony go.  You could tell it was killing him to be away from his son.  I cannot imagine being away from Kyla for that long.  Heck, I haven't even left her for a full day yet!  But I think Emily being honest with him and sending him home was for the best.

The jury is still out on Jef.  I can't decide about him.  I need more time.  I did think it was adorable that he told her that he has a major crush on her.

Arie had the next one on one date.  Wow, can we say chemistry?  Now those were some kisses!  And I love that he kissed her forehead.  I love love love when my hubby kisses my forehead.  Anyway, these two definitely have a strong connection and I think Arie is going to be around for awhile.  I may be reading into this way too much, but I feel like the slow motion picture they did with these two at the end of their date with Dolly singing in the background would be the perfect way to look back at their relationship after she picks him.  What do you all think?  Or maybe they're going to try to make me think all along she picks Arie and then shock me when she chooses someone else.  We'll see I guess.

Kalon - Wow.  I hope he goes home.  And pronto!

Alessandro - Wow Wow Wow!  Emily isn't messing around.  I love that Arie was there for her and kissed her and told her to have a good night.

So, who are my favs?  Sean is definitely my #1 by far!  It may be because he's an athlete.  But I also feel like he's really sincere.  If he doesn't win, he should be the next Bachelor for sure.

I also like Arie and Doug at this point.  Like I said, still not sure about Jef.  I need more from him.  Ryan was one of my favorites last week, but he's just giving off this macho attitude thing that I don't like.

Ahh, I can't wait until next week.  There are 13 guys left and I wish we could just skip to the top 4 because I think there are so many guys left that have no chance and I just want to see her with the top guys and see who she picks.  Like Kelly Ripa said, this season there are "slim pickens".  I couldn't agree more.  Luckily I think she has a couple really good guys!

Who are your favorites so far?  Leave me a comment and let me know your thoughts :)

Weekend Recap

Happy Memorial Day!  I first want to say that I am very thankful for all of the service men and women, past and present.  A lot of people just think of this holiday as a three-day weekend, but it is much more than that.  I, of course, am thankful that Tyler was able to be home with us for three days, but will always teach Kyla the reason that we get Daddy home for an extra day.

Here's a little recap of our wonderful weekend...

Saturday afternoon we went to Brat Fest.  For those of you who don't live in Wisconsin, you're missing out, haha.  Actually I didn't even eat a brat.  But Tyler had six over Friday and Saturday so he ate my share too.  They have a "Take Your Brat To Work Day" on Friday morning every year so Tyler had two for breakfast on Friday and then went back for two more for lunch.  Only in Wisconsin, right?  :)

Saturday night we rented a movie for when Kyla went to bed.  We saw Horrible Bosses.  The verdict...HORRIBLE!  Don't see it.  Tyler had heard it was good so we went with it.  It was still nice to have a movie night because we rarely do that.

Sunday was a fun day with just the three of us.  It was in the 90's here so we got the pool filled up!  Tyler and Kyla had fun splashing away while I just stuck my feet in and snapped pictures.

I love this little suit :)

The ruffles on the butt are my favorite!

I'm cool!

Still not really wanting to sit down

But I will if it means I get to play with Daddy!

She got a big kick out of splashing the water.

Thirsty girl!

The water and the heat took it right out of her because as soon as we got inside, she was sound asleep!  I woke her up at 5:00 so she'd sleep last night and she was not a happy camper!  We had dinner and then treated ourselves to ice cream at Culver's.

And when the baby's in bed, the parents will play...

We love Monopoly!  We used to play all the time and I don't think we've played once since Kyla was born.  Tyler beat me so I'll need a rematch soon.  Can you believe I had 4 houses on Park Place and Boardwalk and LOST?  Crazy, right?!

Today my mom came up to help me plant flowers around the house.  And when I say "help", I mean she did everything.  Thank you so much Mom!  I would share pictures with you all, but we just had a huge storm and they look awful right now.  I'll wait until they bounce back and spread out a little :)  We did a bunch in my back little garden thing I have, two hanging plants and two pots.  I love flowers!  Now I just need to make sure they get watered this summer!

Speaking of the storm, Kyla was terrified.  I think it was the noise that really scared her.  It was crazy windy, hard rain and even some hail.  She crawled on Tyler's lap and wouldn't let go and had this tiny little whine like "Daddy, protect me!"

Overall, it was a fantastic weekend.  We got some things done around the house crossed off our list and got to spend time together as a family, which is the best kind of weekend!

Oh, and remember how I told you all that Kyla was a huge Mama's girl lately?  Well, that is slowly ending, especially after this weekend!  I can't really pick her up much anymore and her Daddy will pick her up whenever she wants so she loves that!

What was the best part of your weekend?

Tot School - 16.5 months

Tot School
Kyla is 16.5 months old.

I didn't do a new color bin this week.  So far we have done red, blue, yellow and green.  Obviously Kyla can't recognize the colors yet, but I still feel like continuing with a different color each week may be a little much.  I am going to continue reviewing the four colors she has been introduced to for a few weeks.  My long term plan is to do colors and shapes each week until she turns 2.  Then, we will start with the alphabet, doing one letter per week.  However, I am having a baby at the end of August so it's very possible this will all change.  But I'm hoping by the time Kyla is 2, the baby will be about 4 months, and hopefully I will be a good Tot School routine!

We did do two Tot Trays this week.  Our first one was the  Stack & Roll Cups.

Kyla is really into stacking things lately so she loved these.  Of course she isn't able to put them in the right order, but we still have a lot of fun with them.

Our other tray this week was actually with our pocket chart to review our four colors.  I picked up a bunch of free paint sample cards (not sure if there is a more proper name for them) and laminated them.  And since Kyla LOVES playing with popsicle sticks, we just matched the colored sticks with the cards.  It's a great color matching activity (and cheap)!

Here are some other things Kyla enjoyed this week:

She's always pulling her Learning Piggy Bank off the shelf to play with.

She's becoming a great little Mommy to her babies.  She's learning how to hold them, put them to bed, feed them and burp them.

Coloring.  However, Kyla decided this week to start eating the crayons so this didn't last long each day.  She's never tried eating them before so hopefully this doesn't last!

Since she loves popsicle sticks so much, her Parmesan cheese container has become her favorite, every day toy.  She is starting to figure out how to get the lid on and off and just loves putting those sticks in and taking them out.  It's amazing how much entertainment they provide!  As she puts them in one at a time, we count them every time.  Now if I'm not paying attention and she starts putting them in, she holds one up and looks at me, waiting for me to count :)

She figured out that the bottom of her blocks would be a good place to put popsicle sticks too.

Another Kyla-invented activity...stacking my decorative blocks.  She really concentrates on this, but gets easily frustrated when they fall over.

Being very careful!

I love the concentration :)
We read lots of books!  She's getting really good about pointing to the objects when I ask her where they are.

This is by far her favorite book lately.  Between Tyler and I, I bet we read it 15 times a day.

Baby Mickey's Book of Shapes
My favorite picture of the week was this one of Kyla and Daddy having fun splashing in the pool.

If you're a new follower and you also do Tot School, please leave a comment so I can follow your blog too.   Thanks :)

Fill in the blank Friday

{Today I'm linking up here for Fill in the Blank Friday.}

 1. The best surprise ever would be...hmm, I would love any surprise really, but a new camera would be really sweet or just a nice bouquet of flowers for my table :)

2.  Seeing my baby girl for the first time is my most favorite memory.

3.  The hardest, but most worthwhile thing I've ever done was...pregnancy, labor, childbirth, breastfeeding (you can read about my breastfeeding experience here).

4.  The best part of my day is...the moment Tyler walks in the door!  That's an easy one!  I love having dinner as a family and then just playing and spending time together before Kyla goes to bed.

5.  Something I like that most people don't is...my van, haha!  And most people don't like all the trashy reality TV shows that I watch.

6.  Something I am willing to fight for is...my marriage and my family.

7.  Something you might not know about me is...I love the beach, but hate the ocean.  It scares me to death!  We didn't go snorkeling in Hawaii on our honeymoon because I am a chicken.  I dream about a beach vacation, but the most I'd do is probably stick my feet in the water.

Happy Memorial Day weekend to all of you!  I am going to be planting flowers around our house, attending Brat Fest and just enjoying time with my hubby and baby!

What are your plans for the long weekend?

My first letter to my son

Dear baby boy,

I am 26 weeks pregnant with you and I figured now is as good of time as any to write you your first letter.  There will be many more to come, trust me.

I have always wanted a son, but before we had our 20 week ultrasound, I was convinced you were a girl.  Daddy and I were so thrilled when they told us you were a boy and Kyla was going to have a little brother.

I know you are excited to make your grand entrance into the world, but I need you to wait at least another 10 weeks, preferably 12.  We still need to finish painting your room, get your crib, bedding and all those other little things that a baby needs.  And you need to get nice and strong in my belly!  I also think you need to work on your sleeping habits.  I can feel you moving and squirming all day and night.  And you sure do kick Mama hard!  But it's ok, I know that means you're healthy and going to be an athlete like your Daddy!  We're really hoping you are a great sleeper like your big sister.  She started sleeping through the night at 6 weeks old so maybe you even want to have a little competition with her and shoot for 5 weeks?  And now that she's a big girl, she sleeps at least 12 hours a night.  Of course I will love you no matter what, but I'm a much happier Mama when I get good sleep.

Speaking of your big sister, I can't wait to see you two interact.  You're going to be very close in age so I pray that you will always have a wonderful relationship.  I know you will fight and probably give me more grey hair than I already have (yes, I have grey hair already, ugh!), but I hope you will be best friends forever.  Your uncles, Matt and Mark, and I didn't always get along growing up (they were really mean to Mama, you better not be mean to Kyla like that, haha), but they are the best brothers ever and I know they'd do anything for me as I would for them.  Even when Mommy and Daddy make you mad, Kyla will always be there and will probably have her own reasons why we aren't fair.  It will probably be something like she wants a cell phone and we told her not until she's 18 or she wants to stay out until midnight and we told her 10:00.  But just remember, everything we do, is because we love you both so much!

I'm so excited to meet you little guy!  These next few months will go fast I'm sure and you will be with us before we know it.  Just don't make it before August, ok?

I love you so much.  You keep growing and getting strong and don't forget, it's ok to sleep once in awhile.

Until next time,

Mommy

Daddy's little girl

I wasn't going to blog tonight because I'm not feeling great and didn't have much to write about.  However, I just had to share this...

Tyler needed to run a few errands tonight so he took Kyla along to give me a little break.  They went to Home Depot and Target.  They got home and I asked Kyla if she was a good girl.  Tyler said she was great and so cute he had to buy her a present.  Haha.  This is the same guy who most would say is really cheap (he calls it fiscally responsible).

He bought her a walking, barking puppy.  I just had to laugh.  He said "well, she was just so good and she looked at me and just smiled so I told her let's go pick out a toy."  She's not even old enough to beg for things and he's already giving in to her cuteness.

It's official, Kyla you already have Daddy wrapped around your little finger.  But I think it's adorable!

Maybe the most random post ever...

Tuesday's are usually my pregnancy updates, but I decided to not do a full 26 week post today.  Mostly because not much has changed from last week and I feel like I would be typing all of the same things.  And I surely don't want you to get bored :)  But here is my belly picture for the week...

See the little redhead trying to escape out the front door? :)

As far as how I've been feeling, I have good days and bad.  It's SO incredibly hard  to take it easy.  I want to take Kyla outside all day and I just can't.  She runs and runs and doesn't know better to stay out of the street yet so I all I do is chase her.  That doesn't really go well with my "resting" plan.  Luckily her Daddy is the best and takes her outside and lets her run when he gets home from work.

Let's see, what else is going on around here...

~Kyla gets the biggest kick out of doing the little piggies with her toes.  She loves when Tyler does one of her feet and I do the other.  It is adorable.

~We bought her a little pool over the weekend since it was so hot out.  She likes it, but refuses to sit in it.  She does this with her baths now too.  Not sure what the deal is.  She loves to play standing up in the water!  We had our neighbors over for a little swim date.  I wish Kyla was as chill as Dean is!  He loved just sitting in the water!

Tyler was trying to get her to sit by Dean for a picture.  Haha, yeah right!

Dean's thinking "Get a grip girl, it's just water!"

I'd rather stand up and throw all the toys out of the pool

Drying off on the swing :)
~I'm really excited to finally get some flowers planted around the house this weekend!

~I have started a list of things to get done this summer and I don't think Tyler is going to appreciate it very much.

~How cute is this face?

~Who are you rooting for on the Bachelorette so far?  I know this might amaze you, but I don't know who wins.  Yet.  Reality Steve hasn't posted it yet so I feel like I can post my favorites.  I want to see more of Sean.  I think he's really cute and him and Emily would be adorable together.  Very Ken & Barbie like.  I also think Jef is really sincere.  I'm starting to get over his weird hair.  I think Emily really likes him!  I did like Ryan, but now I think he is a little too much of a macho man for me.  I think Emily really likes Arie too.  The jury is still out about him for me.  What do you guys think?

I love that Emily is very open and honest about wanting more kids.  I think her exact words were she wanted a van full of kids.  Smart woman :)

~Tonight is night 2 of my meal planning.  No trips to Culver's yet.  But I think I need to unsubscribe from some emails because Culver's and Applebee's both just sent me a coupon.  They're just begging me to come in and use it.  Ugh!

~Lately Kyla likes to look at our wedding albums and point to Daddy.  It's so cute!

"Daddddddy!"

~I know these are horrible pictures, but I just love her in a ponytail.  And this adorable new Minnie Mouse outfit...

Big girl can climb up on Grandma's chair now!

I'm also loving Kyla's new Garanimals sandals from my mom.  I want to get them in a size 5 too because I think she will be in them by the end of summer.  They are the greatest sandals ever!
~If you are one of those people that only read my blog when I post it on Facebook, you should really become a follower.  Ok?  Thanks!

~So, is this a random enough post for you yet?  Haha, sorry, this is how my brain works most days.  Completely sporadic!

~I am having sand volleyball withdrawal really bad.  I basically haven't played for the last three summers.  I subbed once in a great while last year.  But Tyler plays so we can't both be gone (plus I'm way too pregnant to play this summer anyway).  I mean I'm sure Kyla would hold down the fort, but ya know :)

~How perfect are my Thirty-One bags for all of my Tot School stuff?  Who needs organization in their house?  I can help!  And I can give you a great deal ;)

~Time to snuggle with my baby, get her ready for bed and then watch Donald (hopefully) win Dancing with the Stars!
